Is online bingo in the UK worth playing for real money or is it just a community thing?
-
Been thinking about getting into online bingo properly but can't decide if it's actually worth playing for real money or if people just do it for the chat rooms and community aspect. I've tried a few of the best bingo uk sites like Gala Bingo and Buzz Bingo but only with free credits so far.
Does anyone actually make decent money from it or is it more about the social side? And are there genuinely good best bingo apps to win money uk that aren't just taking the piss with impossible odds?
-
@lucy_wins The reality is most people lose money long term, but that's gambling innit? I play games for money uk across various platforms and bingo's actually got better RTPs than slots usually. Mecca Bingo's app is decent if you're looking for mobile play.

Let me break down the maths for you lot. If we consider a typical 90-ball bingo game with 100 players, each buying a £1 ticket, the prize fund is £100. With operator margin of roughly 20%, the actual prize pool is £80. Your probability of winning is 1/100 = 0.01, so expected value = 0.01 × £80 = £0.80. Therefore, expected loss per game = £1.00 - £0.80 = £0.20 or 20% house edge.
Compare this to slots at 4-6% house edge and you'll see bingo's not great mathematically. But the social element has value that's harder to quantify.
-
@betting_pro Bloody hell, when you put it like that it sounds terrible! Though I suppose if you're having a laugh and making friends, that 20% is like paying for entertainment?
-
The community aspect is massive. I started on William Hill Bingo just for something to do during lockdown and ended up in this group that still meets up IRL now. We've got a WhatsApp group and everything. Won about £150 total over 18 months but spent way more than that obviously.

Apps-wise, I'd recommend:
Site App Quality Chat Features Withdrawal Time Min Deposit Gala Bingo Excellent Very active 24-48 hours £10 Mecca Bingo Good Moderate 2-3 days £10 Buzz Bingo Very Good Excellent 1-2 days £5 Paddy Power Good Active 24 hours £10 Buzz Bingo's got the best community feel in my experience.
-
@mobile_gambler That's really helpful thanks! Just downloaded Buzz Bingo based on your recommendation. Are the welcome bonuses worth bothering with or typical wagering requirement nonsense?
-
@newbie_casino Bingo bonuses are usually better than casino ones. Typically 4x wagering on bingo games vs 35x+ on slots. Just read the T&Cs - some restrict you to penny games which is taking the piss really.
-
Cheers everyone! Think I'm gonna give it a proper go. @mobile_gambler that table's brilliant, exactly what I needed. Might start with Buzz Bingo since a few of you mentioned it.

One thing nobody's mentioned - the progressive jackpots can be mental. Saw someone win £12k on a Gala Bingo progressive last week. Course the odds are astronomical but that's the dream innit?
The mathematical expectation for progressive jackpots follows: E(x) = Σ(P(win) × Prize Value) where P(win) = 1/(total possible ticket combinations). For a typical network progressive with 50,000 players, if jackpot is £15,000 and ticket cost £2, your expected return is still negative but the variance creates those life-changing moments.
-
@vip_player_uk Problem with progressives is they're usually network-wide so you're competing against thousands. Give me a good old 75-ball room with 50 players any day.
-
Been lurking but had to chip in - the social side is genuinely life-changing for some people. My nan's 78 and plays on Coral Bingo every night. She's made friends from all over and it's kept her spirits up since granddad passed. She spends maybe £20 a week but it's worth every penny for the company.
-
@casinofan_gb That's lovely mate. It's easy to get caught up in the money side but forget bingo's always been about community. The online versions have kept that spirit alive really well.
-
Just to add some balance - I've spent about £800 on bingo over the past year and won back maybe £200. The chat rooms are fun but let's not pretend this isn't expensive entertainment. Budget accordingly people!
-
@jackpot_jane Brutal honesty there! Though £600 for a year's entertainment isn't that bad compared to what some people spend on nights out. At least you get the chance of winning it back.
-
Update from the trenches - just cashed out £180 from Ladbrokes Bingo after a decent week. Took exactly 26 hours to hit my bank account which is pretty solid. Their 90-ball rooms are always buzzing too.
-
@withdrawal_king Nice one! What's your typical session budget? I'm thinking of switching from casino games to bingo for a change of pace.
-
Thought I'd update - been playing Buzz Bingo for 3 weeks now and absolutely loving it! Down about £40 overall but won £85 in one session so not too bad. The community is exactly what you all said it would be. Thanks for pushing me to try it properly!
