Been playing roulette for years and I'm still torn on this. When looking for the best online roulette UK sites, you've got two main options - RNG (random number generator) or live dealer games.

RNG is faster, available 24/7, and supposedly uses certified random algorithms. But there's always that nagging doubt - is the software really fair or is it programmed to favour the house more than it should?

Live dealer feels more authentic since you can see the actual wheel spinning, but then you're trusting the dealer isn't manipulating anything. Plus, the best live roulette UK tables often have higher minimum bets.

What's everyone's experience? I've been using Evolution Gaming tables at LeoVegas mostly, but wondering if I should stick to RNG versions instead.

Mate, both are rigged in the house's favour anyway - that's literally how casinos make money! The house edge is 2.7% on European roulette whether it's RNG or live dealer.

That said, I prefer live dealer because at least I can see what's happening. Evolution Gaming's Lightning Roulette at Bet365 has been treating me well lately.

@casino_dan exactly right about the house edge! But I think the psychological aspect matters too. With RNG, every spin happens in milliseconds and could theoretically be predetermined. Live dealer has that human element of unpredictability.

I've noticed uk roulette sites with live dealers tend to have more varied betting patterns from other players too, which somehow feels more natural.

Here's the mathematical reality that might surprise you:

For a fair roulette wheel, the probability of hitting any single number is P = 1/37 = 0.02703

If we assume perfect randomness, the expected variance σ² = n × p × (1-p) where n = number of spins

            So for 1000 spins: σ² = 1000 × (1/37) × (36/37) = 26.31
            Standard deviation σ = √26.31 = 5.13

This means in 1000 spins, any number should appear 27 ± 10 times (roughly 2 standard deviations) to be considered statistically normal.

The beauty is this applies to BOTH RNG and live dealer if they're truly random. The difference isn't in fairness - it's in trust.

@betting_pro that's some proper analysis there! But here's my issue with RNG - I once played NetEnt roulette at Casumo for 3 hours straight and red came up 14 times in a row. Mathematically possible? Yes. Suspicious as hell? Also yes.

With live dealer, at least when weird streaks happen, you can see it's just luck (or a biased wheel, which is also possible but rare).

I've been tracking my results for months and honestly, my win rate is identical between RNG and live dealer - about 47% which is exactly what you'd expect with the house edge.

The real difference is speed. RNG lets me play 60+ spins per hour, live dealer maybe 30. If you're chasing losses (don't judge me), RNG gets you there faster... for better or worse! 😅

@sarah_g that speed difference is crucial! I prefer RNG for exactly that reason. When I'm having a good session, I want to maximise it before my luck turns.

Had a brilliant run on Playtech's Premium European Roulette at William Hill last week - £50 to £340 in about 90 minutes. Would have taken 3+ hours on live dealer.

But @withdrawal_king that's exactly the problem! The speed makes it too easy to lose control. Live dealer forces you to slow down and actually think about your bets.

I switched from RNG to live dealer specifically because I was burning through my bankroll too quickly. The natural pace helps with responsible gambling.

Fair point about the pace, but let's talk about the elephant in the room - dealer bias in live games. Some dealers develop consistent release points and wheel speeds. Sharp players can exploit this.

I've seen players at 32Red's VIP live tables who seem to predict sections of the wheel with uncanny accuracy. Is that more or less fair than RNG?

@mike_bet now that's interesting! I've heard stories about dealer signatures but always assumed it was gambling folklore. Are you saying it's actually possible to gain an edge?

If so, that would make live dealer potentially MORE favourable to skilled players, while RNG remains purely luck-based.

Been playing high stakes for years and I can tell you dealer signatures are real but massively overblown. Maybe 1 in 50 dealers has a detectable pattern, and casinos rotate them frequently.

Plus, the margins are tiny - you might shift the house edge from 2.7% to 2.2%. Hardly a goldmine.

What really matters is which format you enjoy more. I prefer live because I can chat with dealers and other players. Makes the losses hurt less somehow! 🤷‍♂️

As someone relatively new to online roulette, this is fascinating but also confusing! Can someone break down the practical differences?

I've been playing RNG games at PlayOJO (love that they show the RTP clearly), but wondering if I should try live dealer. What are the minimum stakes typically?

                              @newbie_casino good question! Here's a practical breakdown:

                              Feature RNG Roulette Live Dealer
                              Min Bet £0.10-£1 £1-£5
                              Max Bet £500-£5000 £1000-£40000
                              Speed 60+ spins/hour 25-35 spins/hour
Availability 24/7 Limited hours some tables
                              Social None Chat with dealer/players
Trust Factor Algorithm dependent Visual verification
Variants Many (Lightning, etc) Standard + few specials

I'd suggest trying both with small stakes and seeing what feels right for you.

Great table @roulette_rob! One thing missing though - bonus wagering. Most welcome bonuses have lower wagering requirements on live dealer games (or exclude them entirely).

RNG roulette usually contributes 20% towards wagering while live dealer might be 10% or 0%. Something to factor in when choosing.

Honestly, this whole debate feels like arguing about which method of losing money is more 'fair'. The house always wins in the long run - that's mathematics, not opinion.

That said, if I had to choose, I'd go RNG simply because live dealer tables at peak times can have annoying wait times. Nothing worse than being on a hot streak and having to wait 30 seconds between spins.

@slots_steve you're such a pessimist! Yes, the house edge exists, but short-term variance means plenty of us walk away winners on any given session.

I prefer live dealer specifically BECAUSE of the slower pace. It forces better bankroll management and makes the entertainment last longer. When I'm spending £100 on a night out, I'd rather it lasts 3 hours than 45 minutes.

The philosophical question here is really about control vs randomness. RNG gives us the illusion of control through faster play and consistent conditions. Live dealer gives us the illusion of transparency through visual confirmation.

But ultimately, we're all just dancing with Lady Luck, whether she's dressed as an algorithm or a croupier in a studio in Latvia.

Been following this thread with interest. My take: if you're playing for entertainment, live dealer wins hands down. If you're trying to grind through bonus wagering or play with a system, RNG is more practical.

Currently loving Evolution's Immersive Roulette at Mr Green - multiple camera angles make you feel like you're really there.

@james_uk beautifully put! And @tom_slots raises another key point - the production value of modern live dealer games is incredible.

But here's something to consider: the sophisticated streaming technology used in live dealer games introduces its own potential failure points. Network lag, streaming glitches, disconnections during spins... RNG doesn't have these issues.

Speaking of technical issues, mobile performance is where RNG absolutely destroys live dealer. Trying to play Evolution games on 4G during my commute is a nightmare of buffering and frozen streams.

RNG loads instantly and works perfectly even on slower connections. For mobile players, it's not even close.
