Right, so I've always been going down to the corner shop to buy my weekly lottery tickets like some kind of caveman. My mate told me you can actually buy them online now? Can you buy lottery tickets online uk or is he winding me up? I've been queuing behind pensioners buying scratch cards for years when I could've been doing this from my sofa?

Yes mate, you can absolutely buy them online! The National Lottery website lets you buy tickets for Lotto, EuroMillions, Set For Life, all of it. Been doing it for years - saves me the trip to the shop. You just set up an account and away you go.

@lucy_wins Oh yes, they've got loads of online scratch cards. Probably too many if you ask me - makes it dangerously easy to blow through your money. At least in the shop there's that walk of shame to consider!

Been buying online for about 3 years now. The only downside is you don't get that instant gratification of checking your numbers straight away. Though they do email you if you win, which is nice. Won £87 once and didn't even realise until the email came through.

Been offline for ages but had to chime in - you can also set spending limits online, which is actually quite responsible of them. Try doing that in a shop: 'Excuse me Gary, can you stop me if I try to buy more than £10 worth of scratch cards this week?' Good luck with that conversation!

This whole thread makes me realise how much the lottery has evolved. My gran still insists on buying her tickets from the same shop she's been going to for 30 years. Says the machine knows her lucky numbers. Bless her, but she's basically paying for the privilege of human contact at this point!
